SAHMs, do you get help? | BabyCenter Blog

I?ve dabbled in stay-at-home-mom life: each of my official maternity leaves was about five months long; on school holidays I?ll be the one in charge for a week or so.

When I?m the main parent on duty with one or more of my three children, I have routines set up, outings, and often a break. Sometimes the break is a playdate with similar-age children so I can hang out with the mom. Other times, I bring a mother?s helper in to do a few chores, cook, or run the kids in the park.

We?re all thinking the same thought: How long ?til Daddy gets home?

But I really want to know, if you?re at home all the time with your babies, what are your support systems?

My friend and mother of three, Amy Heinz, told me that she was solo with her kids with her for the summer, and they were doing great. Intrigued and impressed, I asked her, ?So you have no help at all?? then she told me that she had strategically hired a babysitter for a few key hours of the week. (And then she blogged about it, because some of us are like that.) She wrote this:

I often think it?s silly that I pay (a very special) someone to watch my kids a few hours a week when I could, technically, do all of my writing and networking at night. But today, as my friend and I were talking, I realized having a great babysitter is about a lot more than accomplishing my to do list. [read more at usingourwords.com]

Kristen Chase, a mom of four and fellow babycenter blogger, has written that she feels that at-home-moms can learn a lot from working mothers and lists self-care among her reasons.
